抄録: This&＃x20;study&＃x20;determined&＃x20;whether&＃x20;the&＃x20;acute&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;response,&＃x20;assessed&＃x20;by&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;thickness&＃x20;and&＃x20;echo&＃x20;intensity,&＃x20;differs&＃x20;between&＃x20;patients&＃x20;with&＃x20;early-mild&＃x20;knee&＃x20;osteoarthritis&＃x20;(OA)&＃x20;and&＃x20;healthy&＃x20;controls.&＃x20;We&＃x20;recruited&＃x20;56&＃x20;women&＃x20;aged ≥ 50&＃x20;years&＃x20;with&＃x20;Kellgren-Lawrence&＃x20;(KL)&＃x20;grade ≤ 2&＃x20;(age,&＃x20;70.6 ± 7.4&＃x20;years;&＃x20;height,&＃x20;153.7 ± 5.2&＃x20;cm;&＃x20;weight,&＃x20;51.9 ± 8.2&＃x20;kg).&＃x20;Based&＃x20;on&＃x20;KL&＃x20;grades&＃x20;and&＃x20;knee&＃x20;symptoms,&＃x20;the&＃x20;participants&＃x20;were&＃x20;classified&＃x20;into&＃x20;control&＃x20;(KL ≤ 1,&＃x20;asymptomatic,&＃x20;n = 27)&＃x20;and&＃x20;early-mild&＃x20;knee&＃x20;OA&＃x20;groups&＃x20;(KL&＃x20;1&＃x20;and&＃x20;symptomatic,&＃x20;KL&＃x20;2,&＃x20;n = 29).&＃x20;Medial&＃x20;femoral&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;thickness&＃x20;and&＃x20;echo&＃x20;intensity&＃x20;were&＃x20;assessed&＃x20;using&＃x20;ultrasonographic&＃x20;B-mode&＃x20;images&＃x20;before&＃x20;and&＃x20;after&＃x20;treadmill&＃x20;walking&＃x20;(15&＃x20;min,&＃x20;3.3&＃x20;km&＃x2F;h).&＃x20;To&＃x20;investigate&＃x20;the&＃x20;acute&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;response,&＃x20;repeated-measures&＃x20;analysis&＃x20;of&＃x20;covariance&＃x20;(groups × time)&＃x20;with&＃x20;adjusted&＃x20;age,&＃x20;external&＃x20;knee&＃x20;moment&＃x20;impulse,&＃x20;steps&＃x20;during&＃x20;treadmill&＃x20;walking,&＃x20;and&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;thickness&＃x20;at&＃x20;pre-walking&＃x20;was&＃x20;performed.&＃x20;A&＃x20;significant&＃x20;interaction&＃x20;was&＃x20;found&＃x20;at&＃x20;the&＃x20;tibiofemoral&＃x20;joint;&＃x20;after&＃x20;walking,&＃x20;the&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;thickness&＃x20;was&＃x20;significantly&＃x20;decreased&＃x20;in&＃x20;the&＃x20;early-mild&＃x20;knee&＃x20;OA&＃x20;group&＃x20;compared&＃x20;to&＃x20;the&＃x20;control&＃x20;group&＃x20;(p = 0.002).&＃x20;At&＃x20;the&＃x20;patellofemoral&＃x20;joint,&＃x20;a&＃x20;significant&＃x20;main&＃x20;effect&＃x20;of&＃x20;time&＃x20;was&＃x20;observed,&＃x20;but&＃x20;no&＃x20;interaction&＃x20;was&＃x20;detected&＃x20;(p = 0.802).&＃x20;No&＃x20;changes&＃x20;in&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;echo&＃x20;intensity&＃x20;at&＃x20;either&＃x20;the&＃x20;tibiofemoral&＃x20;or&＃x20;patellofemoral&＃x20;joints,&＃x20;and&＃x20;no&＃x20;interactions&＃x20;were&＃x20;noted&＃x20;(p = 0.295&＃x20;and&＃x20;p = 0.063).&＃x20;As&＃x20;acute&＃x20;cartilage&＃x20;response&＃x20;after&＃x20;walking,&＃x20;the&＃x20;thickness&＃x20;of&＃x20;the&＃x20;medial&＃x20;tibiofemoral&＃x20;joint&＃x20;in&＃x20;the&＃x20;early-mild&＃x20;knee&＃x20;OA&＃x20;was&＃x20;significantly&＃x20;reduced&＃x20;than&＃x20;that&＃x20;in&＃x20;the&＃x20;control&＃x20;group.&＃x20;Thus,&＃x20;greater&＃x20;acute&＃x20;deformation&＃x20;after&＃x20;walking&＃x20;might&＃x20;be&＃x20;a&＃x20;feature&＃x20;found&＃x20;in&＃x20;patients&＃x20;with&＃x20;early-mild&＃x20;knee&＃x20;OA.
